Sigh

It’s incredible and downright frustrating how time works. Of course, it’s all relative, I know that. But it doesn’t make me less annoyed that waiting six weeks to go to Chicago seems like eternity, and the three days I get to spend there whirl by in a flash.

I’m in Chicago now. Wheeee!!!

Me and My Favorite Skyline!

I got in early yesterday morning, and I’m having a fun time. Of course, as it’s my favorite city ever.

CHICAGO!

Spent another weekend in awesome Chicago with awesome adamselzer. The weather was still cooler than I would have liked (but much better than the 2º F foolishness that was going on the last time I was there), but I had a good time anyway. I got to eat Chicago-style hotdogs and duck fat fries at Hot Doug’s, I went on Ken’s Weird Chicago tour (I’d only been on Adam’s prior, and it was when it was brand new), got freaked the hell out in the Liar’s Club (I feel like I got freaked out in there the first time), ran into Hector from the Chicago Hauntings tour—first at Ft. Dearborn (in all fairness, Adam and I did stage that) and also at the site of the Eastland Disaster—and well, had a great time all weekend, really.

I got time to act like a total tourist and to take lots of pictures, so here goes:

Wicked
Wicked marquee. confusified, this is for you. ;)

Wickedly Good
Ah yes, this it is.

House of Crosses
House of Crosses
One of the stops on the Weird Chicago tour is the House of Crosses. The owner put up a cross to keep gangs away (The Gaylords), and it worked so well, he kept adding more and more. This is the coach house in the back.

La Virgen de Guadalupe
People have built a shrine to what looks like an apparition of La Virgen de Guadalupe as a salt stain under one of the Chicago bridges.

Something Strange...
There is a very strange thing about this painting. Can anyone guess what it is? (P.S. this sign always makes me crave Mexican food)

Adam is CRAZY!
Adam blacked out for a bit and had this crazy notion that he was Spiderman.

Adam is CRAZY!
Again, the blackout continues. This move actually IS called Spiderman.

Hope you enjoyed all those pictures! :)

Soon, I will post about today’s trip to Blendon Woods park with Aidan. ♥

‘Til next time.

Scandalous Princesses

Yo ho yo ho!! I’m back from Chicago!! Had an absolutely AMAZING time. That city is simply unbelievable, with mostly friendly people, things to do and see, things to EAT. Oh my gosh. Some of the aromas wafting through the air while walking down the block–so yummy. Freshly baking bread. Pizza everywhere. Mmmmmm.

Got to hang out with quality people while there. Spent some time with the awesome Adam (adamselzer) and Jen*Jen (jebbyk–but don’t bother to go to her journal because she never uses it), ate some really good food (Pie-Eyed Pizza, a neat candy/ice cream shop to name a couple of places)… DUDE, I TRIED THAI FOOD for the first time ever! It was so good. I went easy, got the Pad Thai. I mean, what could be so scary about noodles and beef, right? It was delicious.

Pad Thai

Highlights:
- Southwest Airline Flight Attendant: Thank you for flying Southwest. Now get out.
- Seeing Who Framed Roger Rabbit at The Music Box. The Music Box is a beautiful theatre. Here is Bizzy and me clowing around in the lobby before hand:

Bizzy and Me

- The cab ride after Roger Rabbit. Apparently Chicago cabbies are insane. They don’t speak much English, but they do have the cuss words down. One memorable thing the cab driver blurted: Learn how drive, mother fuck!
- SEEING JEN!!! Spending time, catching up, drinking wine (goooood wine) and taking pictures while wearing tiaras.
- The Ghost Tour. Always a good time. We were wild and crazy! Adam was great as a tour guide. The last time I went on a tour, he was tag-teaming it, but this time, he was solo. Good times.
Woooo!

- Tried Stout. Liked it. The first beer I’ve ever actually liked. It’s a miracle, I say!
- FOOD! Pie-Eyed Pizza! Goood coffee and hot chocolate.
- Wearing a tiara during the ghost tour. While nicely buzzing. Then heckling the tour guide. ;)
- Old Town Arts Fair. Yummmy food. I had a boneless BBQ rib sammich. Yummm.
- Corned beef sandwhich from a shop in the airport. Sooo good.
- Finishing CRUSH! Came in at over 50,000 words. WHEW!! :D

Lowlights:
- Bizzy losing her camera. :( BUT, this story has a happy ending! Jen, Bizzy, and I had to backtrack (a LOT of walking, mind you), search all the stores we’d been in. The last store we had left to check… wait for it… HAD THE CAMERA! Some nice person had just turned it in! Let me tell you how awesome Chicago tends to be in that regard. People there are generally nicer and friendlier than in Ohio.
- Getting yelled at by some PRICK in some stupid thrift shop for taking photos. Okay, firstly, I had no idea that I wasn’t allowed to take photos (and seriously, wtf kind of rule is that anyway?), secondly, HE WAS A PRICK. He didn’t ask me nicely, he screamed it at me. So I was done in the store. I really wish I’d had some merchandise to throw down to the ground. Asshole. Anyway, I got a picture of the stuff anyway. I’m sorry, it was a terrible error and I had to document it. And this picture was taken before the asshole yelled at me:

WTF??
See the error?

- The BROWN LINE being delayed! Sooo delayed!!! Ack!
- No orbage action on the ghost tour so much this time around. :(
- Flights back to Columbus being delayed like WHOA.
- Time went WAY too quickly. The weekend sped by.

Scandals:
- Bizzy and I using the bathroom together not once, but TWICE.
- Being hit on outside The Clark Bar.
- Bizzy scandalizing random statues and sculptures:

Come here, loverboy...

- Bizzy scandalizing ME:
Happy Strawberry

Click here for more (not necessarily scandalous) pics.

Okay, I’m falling asleep here, so I’m gonna go. But yeah… Chicago was an amazing time. It went way too quicly.

‘Til next time!

Tidbits

As always, after an awesome experience, and as life settles back into normalcy, little memories are steadily floating back to me.

** Unbeknownst to Mandy (mandywriter), Ronni’s car is a Hyundai Accent
Mandy (talking about her rental car upgrade): Yeah, this is a lot better than a shitty Hyundai Accent!
Ronni: HEY!

** Mandy’s car screaming in protest because Adam (adamselzer) wouldn’t put his seatbelt on.

** Singing Dora the Explorer songs with Adam, even though I had to pee so badly it was painful.

** Nadia agentobscura (to me, Mandy, Sara…): I’m serious. Go sit in the back. NOW.

** The Highways: Oh, by the way, you merged!
(Chicago’s highways aren’t known for letting you know that a merge is coming up. It just sort of happens. In one case, the sign was there AFTER the merge).

** Mandy’s random driving noises and being put in the “boat” ever so often.

** Ronni: We should go stand under there, where it’s dry.
Nadia: Oh yeah. You’re so smart.

** Nadia shielding me from ghosts in the Garden of Evil.

** I’m about as skeptical about ghosts as the next guy (*innocent whistle*), but I remember when we first got to Death Alley, and Ken (the other guide) had us all stand on around a sewer. There was supposed to be the spirit (?) of a little boy there, and supposedly moms and very sensitive people could sense him. Before he’d even told that story, I remember my jacket moving, almost as if it were tugged. THEN the guide told the story about the ghost/poltergeist there who tugged on clothing. Freaky much? I was already upset and spooked because of the whole story in the first place, but that just… I don’t know. Of course, Ken could have been making the whole thing up, so yeah.

** Seeing Harpo Studios (it’s supposedly haunted!)

** The REALLY cute guys who walked by the bus before we pulled away for the tour. The girls were all freaking out.

** Ken: Shh, inside voices, girls.

** Going “ooooooo” to the random guy walking by.

** The cute way Nadia scrunches up her nose at you.

** People randomly waving to the bus. That was totally cool.

** Mandy: I think he wants to race. *guns engine*

I PROMISE I’ll post informative conference-related stuff soon.

‘Til next time! :)
